All of us use deodorants and antiperspirants without giving it a second thought. The first time I made my own homemade deodorant I'm pretty sure I laughed then, too. I made the recipe that is up above however i don't really like the scent, I was wondering if anybody knew how I could make the deodorant a smell better but still have a manly scent. I've never tried it with just Shea butter, so I don't know how it would turn out. This deodorant can last up to 48 hours and is perfect for people who need some extra protection. Not only do I not have razor rash from shaving (I'm assuming from the shea butter) but I don't smell anymore, and the sweating hasn't been as bad.

It's most likely the baking soda — some people are sensitive to it. You can make another batch with less or no baking soda, or try to rebalance your underarms' pH with some diluted apple cider vinegar. I'm going to have to try adding cornstarch to the coconut oil I've been using, with just lavender and tea tree oil. Measure 1oz baking soda, 3/8 cup arrowroot starch or organic corn starch & 1/3 cup of organic coconut oil & mix them together very well. My current solution is to moisten the baking soda after I put it on my body until I can't feel the grit anymore. While there are dozens of natural deodorant recipes out there, I'm going to share one I found at because I already had everything on hand needed to make it! Dr Brown's Coconut oil is way too expensive and it spoiled quickly, in my opinion. Deciding to use a deodorant is your choice, but recognize that there is no sound science linking it to cancer.

Plus, not to mention, if you are reusing a plastic deodorant dispenser, your are absorbing the molecules from the plastic. The issue with red tender underarm which so many people report after trying this recipe is due to the high alkalinity of the baking soda. I like using the oil in a liquid state (when the oil reaches 76 degrees Fahrenheit) but many prefer to use it in a solid state. Pretty sure commercial baking soda contains aluminum… Health food stores sell aluminum free baking soda.

The total for one recipe is 83+47+33+34=197 cents -> $1.97 per tube of deodorant. By adding DE into your homemade deodorant, you are giving your sensitive skin a nice dose of DE (essentially, silica) which helps with sensitive areas of skin that might become rashy and it also helps to draw out toxins. I already use grapefruit EO in my hair so so wearing it as a deodorant should be quite refreshing. The issues surrounding the other ingredients in deodorant are more murky to wade through.
